Qualifications & Requirements

  • Candidate must have a RPN certificate and be in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

  • Relevant experience in organizational management, retirement and/or long-term care.

  • Professional competencies related to communication, life-long learning, public relations and health environment awareness

  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

Role Overview, Expectations and Responsibilities

To perform duties which provide optimum individualized resident care, under the direction of the General Manager.

Required to perform duties in accordance with the Standards of Nursing Practice, College of Nurses of Ontario, Retirement home regulatory authority and Ontario Retirement Communities Associations.

Daily routines include medication administration with a computerized EMAR system, charting, scheduling of staff, online training and management skills.

Provides nursing care to residents of the residence by planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising the overall nursing program.

Promotes and coordinates the interdisciplinary approach within the residence through the Nursing, Food Services, Activation, Environmental Service and Administrative departments.

Manages and monitors drug control and drug storage. Oversees the drug administration program and the administration of medication by all members of staff.

Ensures compliance with regulations and quality care for residents by maintaining health care records.

Participates in care conferences as necessary, and consults with residents' families to resolve problems/concerns/complaints.

Performs duties such as hiring, orientation, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating nursing personnel. Coordinates disciplinary procedures with General Manager.
